Köszöntünk a MyData Weekly Digest híroldalon, amely elkötelezetten törekszik arra, hogy minőségi híreket szolgáltasson a személyes adatok kezelésének emberközpontú megközelítéséről. A híreket elsősorban az (angol nyelvű) MyData Global Slack Channel -ről gyűjtjük 2019 júniusa óta. A bejegyzések és a hozzászólások a feltüntetett felhasználó tulajdonát képezik. A MyData a jelenlegi gyakorlattól eltérő elképzelés a személyes adatok etikus felhasználásáról. Erre épülő mozgalom és közösség, valamint egy globális nonprofit szervezet is egyben. App attempts a rare trick in China: Online Privacy

In a country where privacy protections are considered weak and anything-goes data collection has become the norm, Chinese tech entrepreneur Yang Geng stands out. His service, LeakZero, helps people surf the web anonymously, protect passwords and send encrypted messages. By design, he can’t find out the names of the app’s users or even know how many there are. It doesn’t have a so-called ‘back door.’

Today, President-elect of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, revealed the list of nominated commissioners who will constitute the new College of Commissioners of the European Union for the next five years. The least we can say is that she has set the bar very high when it comes to regulating the digital economy. None less than three commissioners have been tasked with overseeing the digital economy within the European Union: Margrethe Vestager (digital watchdog), Didier Reynders (data protection commissioner), and Sylvie Goulard (promoter of the Digital Single Market)

Privacy Policy of Brella.io

This year the MyData conference team offer to use the networking app Brella (available in the App Store & Google Play) with the joincode: MyData2019. But you should read the Privacy Policy of Brella.io since a few people felt not overly comfortable with the terms. Looking for case studies of data governance models

OpenNorth is currently leading a research project that is undertaking research on behalf of the City of Toronto, in the context of its increasing use of data and 'smart city' technologies in service delivery as well as outside proposals for future projects, including the Quayside project of Waterfront Toronto, working with Sidewalk Labs. @Initiators: Participate to Design Thematic Group

As you might have seen across different MyData conferences, the design has been quite steadily been developed as one of the important tracks. Some are planning to establish now a thematic group around design and will host a session at the MyData conference to raise interest and clarify the goals and action plans for the group together with likeminded people. You are invited to participate in the meetup and also to get to know the initiators and their plans.

A giant world map of the conference

Shout out - who wants to help make a giant world map for the conference? Needs a bit of research and testing e.g. the Oodi library facilities in Helsinki and some printing houses. Goal: visualise the community on a map!

Short video clips during conference

Does anyone have experience and/or interest to make short video clips during the conference? Or do you know anyone who could do this? The idea is to do short interviews with participants and post them on the social media. Similar to the interview with Kaliya Yount at MyData2018

Hub Initiators come together

Is there a moment currently planned for hub initiators to discuss together? What works, what doesn't, how they could work better together, etc. I am encountering some success coalition building in Geneva and would want to share those experiences with others. And seek synergies.

MyData Internals

This week I started to additionally monitor the #cities channel. The local hub MyData Germany went through the approval process and the local hub MyData South Korea was renamed to MyData Korea to cover a bigger region. Please let @Ansku Tuomainen know if you have a submission for the MyData monthly newsletter. And there were a number of excellent articles posted this week I highly recommend for #reading!

On a meta-level I got the interesting feedback that the Weekly Digest is like an 'adventure game with a lot of hidden features'. I consider this as a very appreciative feedback - nevertheless, through a few subtle changes I hope to make it more clear now how to navigate through the provided information:

  • click on the MyData icon to view the post in Slack,
  • show all posts of a user by clicking on the username, or
  • click on a #tag to show related posts.

Please continue to send my feedback either via email, on Slack @Christoph Fabianek, or talk to me at the MyData conference next week!
