Remember last week when I profiled NationBuilder, the election software used by both Boris Johnson and Donald Trump? Well, it turns out NationBuilder has been buying voters' data from a company accused by Facebook of vioolating its users' privacy.

Privacy Policy of Brella.io

This year the MyData conference team offer to use the networking app Brella (available in the App Store & Google Play) with the joincode: MyData2019. But you should read the Privacy Policy of Brella.io since a few people felt not overly comfortable with the terms. It states: 'Our legitimate interest (for attendees) to manage and develop our customer & attendee relationships and further develop our business operations. You have a right to opt-out of direct marketing each time we provide marketing to you.'

The MyData Operator

This week was another planning call for the MyData operator workshop. The session description currently is: 'An outcome-orientated, multi-stakeholder workshop to better define the role of the Operator within the MyData ecosystem. The session will include perspectives from Japanese data banks, US fiduciaries, and global intermediaries with existing public and private-sector practitioners. The aim of the workshop will be to develop the direction and working party for a whitepaper to be published in 2019.'

MyData 2019 comms and marketing 101 for the community

Anna Ansku Tuomainen has created a folder (linked in the title) to support us in communicating MyData. The 101 doc is currently mostly about the conference but you are encouraged to creatively use the materials also for any comms needs you have. Also important is to remember to tag @mydataorg in your tweets and posts so those can be forwarded in the main channel.

Interview with Rob van Kranenburg

Rob van Kranenburg is the founder of the Internet of Things Council and he confirmed to come to the MyData2019 conference.

Short video clips during conference

Does anyone have experience and/or interest to make short video clips during the conference? Or do you know anyone who could do this? The idea is to do short interviews with participants and post them on the social media. Similar to the interview with Kaliya Yount at MyData2018

Hub Initiators come together

Is there a moment currently planned for hub initiators to discuss together? What works, what doesn't, how they could work better together, etc. I am encountering some success coalition building in Geneva and would want to share those experiences with others. And seek synergies.

A giant world map of the conference

Shout out - who wants to help make a giant world map for the conference? Needs a bit of research and testing e.g. the Oodi library facilities in Helsinki and some printing houses. Goal: visualise the community on a map!

@Initiators: Participate to Design Thematic Group

As you might have seen across different MyData conferences, the design has been quite steadily been developed as one of the important tracks. Some are planning to establish now a thematic group around design and will host a session at the MyData conference to raise interest and clarify the goals and action plans for the group together with likeminded people. You are invited to participate in the meetup and also to get to know the initiators and their plans.

As a recap, we’ve agreed in the previous MyData community calls and online chats, to develop a poster for each active MyData local hub and thematic group which would present the key highlights of your initiative and a possibility to get engaged. Please submit your information by September 1st!
